Adolescence often becomes a battleground for self-esteem as appearance-based labels lead to profound impacts on mental well-being. Beyond mere mockery, these labels shape identities and can lead to long-term struggles. Recognizing and addressing this issue is vital for fostering an environment where every teenager can navigate their journey without the weight of damaging stereotypes.
"UNLABEL" wasn't just a final-year project; it was a comprehensive social workshop developed in collaboration with schools, educators, counselors, psychologists, and parents. This initiative aimed to uplift teenagers' self-esteem by providing specialized toolkits featuring engaging activities. Complemented by an impactful video and awareness-spreading posters, it was a holistic campaign.
The heart of "UNLABEL" lay in its vision – to invite teenagers to break free from societal labels and embark on a journey of self-discovery. Using design thinking and innovative tools, the project empowered teenagers to navigate the challenges of adolescence with resilience, encouraging a fundamental shift in perspectives on labels for both, victims and perpetrators.
The commitment to addressing social issues through design found tangible success in the "UNLABEL" project. A first-of-its-kind initiative, it garnered appreciation from the design community within our college. Post-session surveys revealed significant improvements in self-esteem among victims and increased awareness among perpetrators.
